Evokazz Well-known Member. I have always messed with the delay to try and find a sync that makes me happy, but always never get it spot on. On getting my new gear one of the first things I did was add a delay, as previous experience tells me a delay used to always be required when using an amp.
I have read somewhere though that when using HDMI even through an amp, that no sync should be needed at all only on SkyHD which has known sync issuesis this true? Would setting the delay on the amp to 0 give me perfect sync on all devices?
Can't test just now as not at home, but curious.

Maybe by tinkering these past few years I've purposely made things out of sync before fine tuning? I think you will have auto lip sycn on the It is part of my Denon I have no problems with Sky HD, although it is connected by optical digital. I have fiddled a little, especially with blu ray. Although there seems to be few issues with a Denon player, some, and these are few, Sky programmes do seem to be problematic but this could be broadcast based.

Because of these annoyances, AV-sync error is a concern to the television programming industry, including television stations, networks, advertisers and program production companies.
Unfortunately, the advent of high-definition flat-panel display technologies LCD, DLP and plasmawhich can delay video more than audio, has moved the problem into the viewer's home and beyond control of the television programming industry alone.
For television applications, the Advanced Television Systems Committee recommends that audio should lead video by no more than 15 milliseconds and audio should lag video by no more than 45 milliseconds. SMPTE standard ST, published in provides technology to reduce or eliminate lip-sync errors in digital television.
The standard utilizes audio and video fingerprints taken from a television program. The fingerprints can be recovered and used to correct the accumulated lip-sync error.
When fingerprints have been generated for a TV program, and the required technology is incorporated, the viewer's display device has the ability to continuously measure and correct lip-sync errors.
However, these timestamps are often added after the video undergoes frame synchronization, format conversion and preprocessing, and thus the lip sync errors created by these operations will not be corrected by the addition and use of timestamps. The Real-time Transport Protocol clocks media using origination timestamps on an arbitrary timeline. A real-time clock such as one delivered by the Network Time Protocol and described in the Session Description Protocol  associated with the media may be used to syntonize media.

With the help of Frame Picker option inserting key-frames for the mouth pose is also hassle free. The animator can select any mouth pose and place it in the timeline; lip-sync will be automatically done.
This automatic Lip- Syncing option has proved to be a great advantage for the animators. Animators are now free from time consuming sketching of each and every Key-frame. To synchronize the mouth shape with the audio, the animator has to simply insert the mouth track and the audio track within the timeline and the select Lip-Syncing option. The beak of the gull is the graphic symbol and if we double click on that we will see number of poses of beak under Lip-Syncing dialog box.
Different box has different shapes of beak matching with the sound like Ah, Er, Oh, M etc and these are also called Visemes. Graphic symbol consist all the mouth poses or visemes; on clicking the graphic symbol a pop-up will appear with all the poses inside the graphic symbol. I'd concentrate on finding what is causing the video delay. It is more often than not as a result of additional processing being applied to the video that that causes lip sync issues to arise. Keep additional video processing to a minimum by disengaging any additional motion flow processing etc on the TV. If getting inconsistent syncronisation relative to sources such as your SKY box then I'd suggest the issue is with what is being broadcast as opposed to it being anything to do with your hardware.
SKY have a particularly bad reputation for lip sync issies. Last edited: Jan 19, SkyQ has a lip sync adjustment under the audio settings. Thanks for the responses.
